St. Thomas Aquinas, in his Summa Theologica, says that amazement is man’s reaction to an event whose cause is unknown. To those unfamiliar with the workings of grace and religion, what happened on the Feast of the Sacred Heart of Jesus at the priory of Albano was certainly amazing. The ceremony was simple but moving: the bestowal of a blessed habit, veil, rosary, and lighted candle upon each postulant, their retirement from the chapel, and then their return as brides of Christ. With black habit and white novice veil, they have made their profession and now follow Our Lord. The change of clothing is an exterior sign of an interior gift of self to God. It is a death to the world and a commitment to Christ.
