Head of B.C. civil liberties group under fire over ‘burn it all down’ tweet | Globalnews.ca

he executive director of the BC Civil Liberties Association (BCCLA) is facing criticism over comments she made on social media in response to the burning of multiple churches in the wake of the discovery of human remains in unmarked graves at former residential schools. Harsha Walia leads the organization, which fights for civil liberties and human rights. She is also a long-time advocate for migrant justice, Indigenous rights, equality and economic justice. Thank you @nicoslobinsky for calling out @HarshaWalia incredible lack of judgement. Being a leader is not about burning things down but working toward building things up. I am here to work with our first nations in a constructive non-violent way. That is #reconciliation. https://t.co/1iRKbxgeAd — Ezra S. Shanken (@eshanken) July 4, 2021
