The former head of the Anglican Diocese of Rochester, England was recently received into the Catholic Church. Bishop Michael Nazir-Ali was once a contender to be Archbishop of Canterbury and is the most recent former Anglican leader to become Catholic. A recent Catholic convert and the former Chaplain to Queen Elizabeth II, Gavin Ashenden, joins to tell us about Bishop Michael’s journey and how he was able to help him along the way. Ashenden shares what he thinks draws Anglicans to the Catholic faith and whether he believes we may see more prominent Anglicans and Anglicans in general convert. In 2017, Ashenden resigned and joined the Catholic Church 2 years later. The former chaplain to the queen discusses what led to his conversion. He is also currently in the process of becoming a Catholic priest. He explains whether Nazir-Ali is expected to go through a similar process. Having recently celebrated St. John Henry Cardinal Newman’s feast day, Ashenden fills us in on how the saint continues to inspire him and others. On another note, Queen Elizabeth’s doctors instructed her to take a break from public appearances for a while. Ashenden talks about what more is known on that.
