One or two projectiles reportedly struck a tractor carrying grain near the village of Przewodow, which lies about five miles from the Ukrainian border, just before 4pm on Tuesday afternoon.
Footage and photography of the incident purported to show a wrecked trailer and tractor lying beside a deep crater.
The local fire brigade in Przewodow said that it had received reports of explosions at a grain silo, and that two people died on the spot. It added that it was securing the scene.
The missile strikes occured at the same time that Moscow launched a significant missile barrage on Lviv, Ukraine’s most western city.
Russia’s defence ministry denied reports that its missiles had hit Polish territory, describing them as “a deliberate provocation aimed at escalating the situation”.
