A continued course of dispute and dissent among Catholic bishops in Germany, even as they say they won’t break away from the Church. More than 60 German bishops met with Pope Francis last week. It was an apparent opportunity to come to the table and hash things out, as the Church in Germany continues its Synodal Way. The bishops say they’ll continue to push for reforms like the blessing of same-sex unions, but they will not separate from Rome. Martin Rothweiler of EWTN Germany, joins to share what was accomplished in this meeting with Pope Francis, if anything. Bishop Batzing, president of the German Bishops’ Conference told reporters, “We want to be Catholic in a different way…” This, as he maintains there will be no break from Rome. Rothweiler discusses what he sees happening here. Living in Germany, he gets a front row seat for much of this. Rothweiler tells us how this dissent among the bishops effects the average person in the pew or the parish priest. There are also some positive developments as well for Catholicism in Germany, that includes a new University and a real commitment among the faithful to pray for bishops. Rothweiler explains more about this.
