Donald Trump has vowed to go to war with “Left-wing gender insanity” and push for legislation that only recognises two genders if he is re-elected, as he looks to reignite momentum for his 2024 presidential campaign.
In a video posted to his Truth Social site, Mr Trump outlined his plan to push schools to “promote positive education about the nuclear family”, punish doctors offering gender reassignment care and bar transgender women from competing on women’s sports teams
The former president announced the wide-ranging set of policies to use federal power to target transgender people as conservatives nationwide become increasingly concerned about such issues.
He said he also plans to pass a law barring minors from receiving gender-affirming health care “in all 50 states” and to direct the Justice Department to investigate the pharmaceutical industry and individual hospitals to determine whether they “deliberately covered up horrific long-term side effects of sex transitions in order to get rich.”

“No serious country should be telling its children that they were born with the wrong gender,” Mr Trump said in the video. “Under my leadership, this madness will end,” he said.
He also falsely claimed that being transgender is a concept that the “radical Left” manufactured “just a few years ago.”

Mr Trump’s proposals are among the most draconian compared to the many that have circulated among conservative lawmakers in the US Capitol.
The 76-year-old – so far the only candidate to officially declare his presidential bid for 2024 – has had a lacklustre start to his campaign. His attempts so far to rile conservatives beyond his base with red meat issues has largely been met with what has been dubbed “Trump fatigue”.
