Three innocent men tried to take their own lives after they were falsely accused by a fantasist who claimed to be the victim of rapists and a grooming gang, a court heard.
Eleanor Williams, 22, prompted hysteria in a Cumbria town after accusing a number of men of rape and posting an account on Facebook in May 2020 which alleged she had been the victim of an Asian grooming gang.
The allegations made by Williams, who was found guilty of perverting the course of justice earlier this year, led to protests in her hometown of Barrow-in-Furness which were attended by Tommy Robinson, Preston Crown Court heard on Monday.
