Old Romans Unscripted: Ep 144 voluntas permissiva

Today’s show: “voluntas permissiva” God’s permissive will – ref the new inter-religious document signed by Francis in Kazakhstan:

“We note that pluralism in terms of differences in skin color, gender, race, language and culture are expressions of the wisdom of God in creation. Religious diversity is permitted by God and, therefore, any coercion to a particular religion and religious doctrine is unacceptable.” https://www.lifesitenews.com/news/document-saying-god-wills-differences-in-religion-was-quietly-changed-just-hours-after-pope-signed-it/

Discussion: proper understanding of “permissive Will” and religious freedom, etc

On Sept. 19, Cardinal Joseph Zen will appear in court for the first day of his trial in Hong Kong. When asked during the inflight press conference on his way back from Kazakhstan if Zen’s trial was a violation of religious freedom, Francis said this:

“Qualifying China as undemocratic, I do not identify with that, because it’s such a complex country … yes, it is true that there are things that seem undemocratic to us, that is true. Cardinal Zen is going to trial these days, I think. And he says what he feels, and you can see that there are limitations there. More than qualifying, because it is difficult, and I do wish to qualify, they are impressions, and I try to support the path of dialogue.”

Though, it’s worth noting, when Zen last came to Rome seeking a meeting with Francis to discuss the Vatican-China deal, he was unable to get a hearing.

Pope’s NEW heresy: Four bishops, several priests, and numerous Catholic scholars have signed a statement rebuking Pope Francis for a recent statement about the reception of Holy Communion, according to which “everyone is invited to the supper of the wedding of the Lamb (Re 19:9). To be admitted to the feast all that is required is the wedding garment of faith which comes from the hearing of his Word.” The Pope wrote these words in his June 29 Apostolic Letter on the liturgy, Desiderio desideravi, but for the signatories of this new statement (see full text below), he omitted the “essential topic of repentance for sin for the worthy reception of the Eucharist.”

Discussion: Trent Canon 11. If anyone says that faith alone is sufficient preparation for receiving the sacrament of the most Holy Eucharist, let him be anathema. [Si quis dixerit, solam fidem esse sufficientem praeparationem ad sumendum sanctissimum eucharistiae sacramentum, anathema sit.]

Discussion: Sacreligious abuses ref the Blessed Sacrament and recent liturgical abuses of the Mass; Italian picnic Mass, Italian lilo Mass, Chicago lasershow Mass, Irish “Leo MacCarthy Cup” Mass, etc…
