Tuesday evening UK news briefing: Taliban to allow women to be ‘active’ and pledge ‘no revenge’

The big story: Taliban to allow women to be ‘active’

As the Taliban assumes control of Afghanistan, the question being asked by Governments is whether they can trust the Islamist group.

Dominic Raab has said the UK will engage with the Taliban to stop terror attacks being launched against the West.

The Foreign Secretary said the Government would take a “pragmatic” approach to dealing with the group but it is clear many of the country’s people do not share Mr Raab’s attitude.

The body of an Afghan was reportedly found inside the landing gear of an aircraft and Britain’s military chief in charge of the Kabul evacuation said the mission to recover the remaining 3,000 British passport holders and a further 3,000 Afghan nationals is now reliant on the Taliban’s “consent”
